Tips for cycle charting.

I’m thrilled that you are interested in tuning into your menstrual cycle, I know you will find magic! Cycle charting is powerful way to intimately understand your body and your unique cyclic experiences. You develop Menstrual Cycle Awareness (MCA), which is an embodied mindfulness of how you travel through the hormonal fluctuations of your menstrual cycle.

How you choose to track your cycle is totally up to you. Do what feels best and relevant. You can write in a notebook, excel sheet, a cycle chart, journal or an app if that’s your thing.

I observe my physical body, my mind, emotions and spiritual self. You do you.

There is alot of info on ways to chart in this blog, you don’t have to do it all. At all. These are ways that I have observed myself and are just ideas of what you could look out for in your own cycle. Stay open, curious and diligent and see what unfolds. You’ve got this!

Physical

  • Track your energy levels: Notice the days you feel energetic and those when you feel tired or lethargic.

  • Observe bodily changes: Pay attention to changes in your skin, hair, appetite, and any physical discomfort or pain.

  • Monitor your sleep patterns: Record how well you're sleeping, including any changes in your sleep quality or disturbances.

  • Note your menstrual flow: Describe the heaviness, colour, and texture of your menstrual blood, along with the duration of your period.

  • Chart your temp: Monitor your temperature throughout your cycle.

  • Observe your cervical mucus: Track changes in your cervical mucus. Egg-white consistancy, sticky, creamy, dry?

Mental

  • Journal your thought patterns: Are your thoughts clear or foggy? Are you more creative, decisive or indecisive?

  • Assess your focus and productivity levels: Note the variations in your ability to concentrate and complete tasks throughout your cycle.

  • Track your dreams: Keep track of any vivid dreams or nightmares, as they can reflect your subconscious mind's activity.

  • Observe your boundaries. Take note of your sense of boundaies throughout your cycle; mental, emotional, energetic.

Emotional

  • Chart your emotional landscape: Record your emotions daily, noting any fluctuations in mood or unexpected feelings.

  • Reflect on emotional triggers: Identify what seems to trigger emotional responses, and how you respond.

  • Evaluate your emotional resilience: Observe how your ability to handle stress or emotional upheaval changes over the course of your cycle.

  • Observe your sexuality, libido and your acceloraters and brakes.

Spiritual

  • Set intentions: At the end of each cycle set an intention for the month ahead to hold you through your cycle. Check-in daily.

  • Connect with your intuition: Note any moments of heightened intuition or profound insights.

  • Reflect on your sense of connection: Pay attention to your feelings of connectedness with yourself, others, and the world around you.

  • Sensitivity: Bring awareness to your sensitivity and how it changes.

Tips for Charting

  • Use a dedicated chart, journal or app: Choose a medium that feels intuitive and easy for you to use regularly.

  • Be consistent: Try to make entries at the same time each day to build a habit and ensure consistency in your observations.

  • Listen to your body: Tune into your body's signals without judgment. Approach charting with curiosity, as a way to learn from and connect with your cycle.

  • Look for patterns: Regularly review your charts to identify patterns or cycles within your cycle.
